London Daytrips: Cambridge

Posted April 28, 2016

With this lovely weather hitting London, it might be an great idea to have a little stroll outside the big capital. Lot’s of our guests ask how to get to Oxford but not many ever ask about Cambridge and due to their historical competition I decided to write something about Cambridge because it definitely having some hard times against Oxford in this occasion. Is less than an hour from London King’s Cross by non-stop train, about 50 miles (80 km) north of London or 2 hours and a half by bus if you’re looking for the cheap option.

As everybody knows Cambridge hosts the famous and architecturally beautiful University of Cambridge. But that’s not all! Apparently men had settlements in the area of Cambridge since the prehistoric era so it’s for sure a city full of history and historical buildings, and it would for sure be interesting to have a walking tour an discover it. There’s something for everyone when it comes to entertainment in Cambridge.

A choice of galleries showcases, an impressive range of art, from the contemporary to the classic, a buzzing theatre and performance scene presents drama, dance and family shows and you can enjoy all kinds of live music from internationally acclaimed orchestras and ensembles to touring pop stars, pub gigs, the world-famous Folk Festival, ever-popular Beer Festival, family-friendly Big Weekend and magical Secret Garden Party festivals. A pretty bubbly city where you can relax surrounded by nature.

It lies on the River Cam which is a lovely quiet river that go all along the city. As alternative tour of the city you can rent a Punt (long comfy boats) that you push with a long stick pretty much like the ones in Venice with or without driver. If you get a bit out of the city you’ll also probably see locals swimming in it so why not be brave and join them!
