London has a reputation of being an expensive place to visit but its not all as it seems, there are plenty of free activities to fill your day and night with. One of the best-kept secrets of London is Museum Lates: where Museums and Galleries open free after-hours events. If you like music, workshops, art, exhibitions or tours without the day-trip crowd then keep a note of the Free Late Night Museum Events in London list below for some great times during your stay.

Science Museum – South Kensington

The Science Museum holds late sessions on the last Wednesday of each month. To make it even better, every late night event is themed. They have interactive activities including making slime, chemistry show, cabaret shows, virtual reality, quizzes and tours of the most loved exhibitions. Some of their past events have involved a penis drawing tournament (life models not needed 😉), meditations using puppets and even a silent disco.

Tate Modern – Bankside

For those looking for an alternative weekend eve, Friday and Saturday night Tate Modern opens its doors until 10 pm. Skip the crowds during the day and explore the incredible exhibits and collections for free after-hours.

They also do events on the last Friday of each month called Uniqlo Tate Lates. You will find DJs selected by NTS Radio, pop up talks, exhibitions, film, interactive activities and workshops. Uniqlo Tate Lates are ticketed however you can drop into the Friday and Saturday weekly late night for free.

Tate Britain – Millbank, Westminster

The Tate Britain throws aside their serious side and lets the young 16-25 years old from Tate Collective in charge for Friday Lates. On the first Friday of every month, Tate Britain holds the after hours event. If art, music, fashion shows and films are your thang, then you’re in for a good night. It’s open until 9:30 pm and, of course, entry is free which is why you can’t miss it.

V&A – Cromwell Rd, South Kensington

V&A holds its late night events on the last Friday of each month between 6:30 pm and 10 pm. It introduces the audience to new and emerging artists through films, installation, DJs and live performance. Admission to all after hours events are free to drop into.

Natural History Museum – Cromwell Rd

The Natural History Museum hosts themed after hours events on the last Friday of each month. The perfect occasion Let your inner child out and explore the dinosaurs, mammals and pop up science stations which let you get up close and personal with specimens. Previously they have had science demonstrations, debates, live performances and silent discos. It’s open until 10 pm and admission is free (although some events are ticketed).
