London’s Best Independent Cafés

Posted October 6, 2016

The British have a reputation for drinking terrible coffee. For the more discerning coffee aficionado travelling from abroad this may be a worrying thought when travelling to London. But fear not, in recent years independent cafes have begun educating Londoners on the proper way to drink coffee.

Excellent coffee is alive and well for those who are prepared to look a little further than Starbucks or Costa, and in case that sounds too hard we’ve compiled a list of the best London has to offer:

Monmouth (Covent Garden & Borough Market)

The original London coffee roasters, they’ve been roasting their own beans since before it was cool. If you want something a little more adventurous than the usual espresso and milk combination they offer a wide variety of single origin filter coffees. Get your coffee take away and go explore the local area (and if it’s a weekend you can also enjoy the famous Borough Market).

Sharps Barber and Shop (Fitzrovia)

The very definition of Hipster, front half trendy cafe, back half old school barber’s shop; Melbournians will feel right at home here. The coffee definitely meets the same high standards one would expect to find in Melbourne. A great place to stop by if you’re visiting the British Museum or in need of a haircut!

Sharps Barber Dunne Frankowski

Prufrock (Farringdon)

If you like your coffee to be made by the best in the business then this is where you want to go. Staffed by barista champions from around the world, Prufrock are dedicated to pioneering excellence in coffee. If that sounds a little over the top don’t let it put you off, the menu is delightfully simple and will please those with simple or discerning tastes.
