Astor Hostels Recommends… Borough Market

Posted May 26, 2016

Calling all foodies!!! If you’re a food lover (like most of us are, or should be!) and are interested in exploring a part of real historical London, then the Borough Market are right up your alley! This market dates back 1000 years and is London’s most famous and well known food market, and for a good reason too.

Located right next to the London bridge, this market is a buzzing food metropolis, teeming with stalls of beautiful artisan gourmet goodies including delicious fresh breads, cheeses, chutneys, oils, teas, preserves, cakes, fruits and veg just to name a few! The best part of this market is all of the free samples so take advantage of this and make sure you come hungry, as there is A LOT to try. Not only are the samples amazing, but also the actual atmosphere of the place is not one to be missed! (Trust me I’m there almost every week and can’t get enough).

If you still have an appetite after all of the testers, never fear! There is a great section of the market where you are able to grab yummy street food from a variety of food carts, sit and enjoy in the beautiful courtyard of the Southwark Cathedral (which is London’s oldest Cathedral and it’s located next to the market). Or you can actually take a quick walk to the London Bridge and catch an awesome view of the iconic Tower Bridge! Cool huh?!

The market is on from Wednesday to Saturday every week, so there should be plenty of time for a visit on your trip to London!
